First of all, H/T and congrats to LongbowMkII who !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I came out mainly to see his runs and was thrilled with the cars - come on in for: the Yaris, an M2, an STS, that Buick, 3 gens of Miatas, a 944, a W123, several Subarus & more. Limited data plans consider yourself warned.

Kinja'd!!!

Apologies that these are pics aren’t as good as they should be. There were two groups each doing an AM and PM session. When I got there the first group was already out, so I did what I could with my iPhone. I got out my SLR during the group switch, but I couldn’t see the screen to review my shots in the sun so exposure is meh. I had a circular polarizer that I should’ve thrown on there, but I just wanted to shoot and not fiddle around. Lesson learned for next time. Then I had to bail before I could redo the first group in the PM session with the SLR - it was over 100 outside and my kids were getting miserable. I also missed a few cars that in retrospect I really wish I got even one crappy pic of - an S3, an A4 allroad, and a Mk7 GTI. There were also a ton of older Subarus, no surprise, but I still wish I had a snap or two. A friend of mine is planning to run his Acura CL at one of the next events, so hopefully I’ll be out there again with the SLR set up properly for a full day of shots.

First up, here’s a 2016 WRX STi with a few mods:

This guy ran with a WRX his rooftop box on:

Here’s Longbow’s Yaris - I’m just posting all unedited version of the few pictures that I managed to get of it:

Here’s the STS - this was unexpected to see out here:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Here’s a BMW M2. I absolutely love that someone spent probably $50k on this and decided one of the first things to do with it was to go thrash it around a field. STS makes a cameo.

Three generations of Miata. I put these in order NA - NC- ND. I think the NC driver is a maniac for not having a roof, but it made for a good show.

An Impreza Coupe in it’s natural habitat. There were several other first-generation Imprezas in sedan and wagon forms, but this is the only one I got photos of.

What remains of a 4th-generation Civic sedan.

The Buick “Century of Hoonage” as Longbow called it.

A CRX!

The 944 “German Lee” - yes this is a car that has run 24 hours of LeMons. It even had a matching orange pop-up. Yes, it did have the General Lee horn and yes he did it at the start of most of his runs. The driver got pretty aggressive and this was one of the most fun to watch. Despite an oil cooler installed where the right headlamp used to be, the owner said it was still running hotter than he would’ve liked.

Finally, the W123 300D. This was undoubtedly the star of the show. Not just because of the absurdity of running an old Mercedes boat in a rallycross, but because the driver was going full tail-out around every corner that he could. I couldn’t fully capture it photos, so here’s a couple of potato cam videos as well.

Bonus - random pics from around the paddock. The property is a Subaru/import junkyard and there was some interesting stuff littered around.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I sort of want to rescue the yellow WRX, but if it’s here it’s probably been picked over already.

Kinja'd!!!

Several of the cars here appear to have been wrecked at events and left behind.

Kinja'd!!!

Mazda REPU!!!!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Somhow I doubt it has started at all in many years.

The entrance is marked appropriately with the husk of a Subaru 360.

No shots of Brianne’s rolled rally car? Am disappoint.

Also, I wonder if Stef’s space shuttle is still there

Also also, I may have spun that red Impreza in that field a few years ago.

I’m new to this scene so I don’t know the story of the rolled car. Or Stef’s car. Sorry. What should I have been looking for? Is the car that was rolled something that she got running again?

There was the red Impreza running and another in the boneyard - I’m guessing it was one or the other!

There is (or maybe was) a red balled up caged car in the field that Brianne rolled at Rally Mexico back in 2012. It’s a write off due to cage damage, but was still on the property in 2015.

Stef’s car was a white Legacy wagon from the boxy early 90's era. Last I knew the door skin was torn on it. As for the car I drove, I can’t guarantee it was red. I just know it was a GC Impreza, one of the fleet vehicles, and I could only do one run in it when I visited because it would overheat in two runs.

Thanks! I think might have I found them hiding in a photo I didn’t post. Here you go! If I had known they were something special, I probably would’ve gotten shots specifically of them. This looks like a wrecked rally car with Brianne’s name on it:

Kinja'd!!!

And this appears to be a 90's Legacy wagon behind the Ford pickup looking pretty sorry:

Kinja'd!!!

There also looks like what could be a white 90's Legacy wagon in better shape here:

Yep, that’s Brianne’s Mexico car. I think the Legacy in the last photo is the right one.

I’m stunned how nice the cars are at that rallycross. Those people are nuts! I am particularly jealous of the STS driver.

The latter one is the car!!! Man, I’d love to find some take-off bits from better Legos and get that one back running well. It’s the only Subaru I approve of.

Late to the party, but I just found this link via the event’s FB page. Holy crap this was a fun event, and I’m definitely taking my Miata out here again (I had the NB that was in the 1st run group), just maybe after it cools off a bit so I don’t wind up suffering dehydration induced cramps again, and can actually get good footage of my runs on the GoPro without it overheating.

Love the pics you got, and to make the W123 even more absurd, the dude was running on racing slicks...I’m pretty sure he’s clinically insane, but damn he was fun to watch!

Thanks and very cool, I didn’t even realize there was another Opponaut besides Longbow there! I may pull one of these pictures out and give you a front page bump. Yeah I definitely plan on going back - but maybe I’ll skip August. A buddy of mine has an old Acura CL beater that we’d like to run, but we’re not sure we won’t break it so we’re working on convincing one of our trailer-owning friends to tow it up.

In your defense, while I’ve been around for a while, my presence has been sporadic at best, and I’ve been gone for a good while so, it’s not that surprising I went under the radar so to speak.

I’m thinking I’ll hold off on another one of these till October or so, give the weather time to cool off, and me time to get a few things on the car fixed. Namely the battery tie down (currently ghetto fixed, but want to make a better solution), the ac vents (currently suffering from droopy eyeball syndrome, parts are on order to fix this), the driver side window (towards the end of the event it decided it wants to only roll half way up :-/), and then a few other odds and ends (as is the nature of a project car).
